Doctoral Candidates Supervision Improvement Workshop
Primary tabs
UNY Graduate School presented Dr. Vijay Kumar Mallan from Otago University, New Zealand. Vijay developed an interest in doctoral education. In Vijay's teaching and research, he focuses on enhancing the doctoral experience for both supervisors and students. Over the last decade, Vijay has developed, disseminated and published on doctoral support, examination and practice feedback. On this occasion, Vijay explained the Practice Workshop for Improving Doctoral Supervision for Heads of Study Programs and Doctoral Students.
“My research philosophy is to produce scholarships that have practical implications. At Otago, I am responsible for academic development programs for supervisors and PhD students. Outside of Otago, I was invited to provide expertise and teach doctoral supervisory programs in Australia, Estonia, Finland, India, Japan, Malaysia, Norway and Sweden. " Said Vijay on the sidelines of his presentation at the workshop which was held for 3 days.
Vijay added that when giving a presentation, don't be selfish. “Remember, when the presenter is using PowerPoint, don't use more than 27 sentences, or you will see your audience sleepy. And there is also something that is better avoided, which is don't read your own slides. " He added again. During the workshop session with students, Vijay also held a teleconference with students and graduates at the University of Otago. In this session students were given the opportunity to share experiences about the obstacles in completing the dissertation.
